The Junior Activities Age Managers Course has been developed to provide Age Managers with a program where they develop a greater knowledge about how Surf Life Saving operates, the factors influencing the growth and learning of young people, and the components that should be delivered to Junior Activities members.

It is hoped that once Age Managers have developed this knowledge, all Junior Activities members can experience a consistent program across Queensland and provide a holistic learning opportunity.

By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the age manager and the age manager mentor
  • Develop strategies to work with children, parents and guardians, coaches, officials and club administrators
  • Manage risks in the beach environment
  • Cater for the physical, emotional and social development of Nippers in your care
  • Safely deliver lesson plans
  • Emphasise fun and participation through educational games and engaging activities
  • Utilise a range of communication, teaching and behaviour management strategies to help Nippers learn basic skills.
Pre-requisites for the course include:
  • Be a financial Member
  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • Hold a valid Blue Card (if 18 yrs and above)
  • Complete Child Safe Awareness (CSA) & Child Youth Risk Management Strategies (CYRMS)

Age Manager accreditations now require an annual proficiency to maintain currency. This is completed online via the SLSQ Hub.

A simple age manager accreditation flowchart has been developed and can be found here: Age Manager flowchart

Age Manager Uniforms

Clubs are encouraged to promote a uniform for age managers to ensure they are easily identifiable for both nippers and parents.
It is recommended that Age Managers follow sun safety guidelines and wear the following:

  • Broad brim or legionnaire style hat
  • Long Sleeve Shirt or Rash Shirt
  • Long board shorts
  • Protective sunglasses.
