Whilst SLSQ strives to provide the safest environment for all members participating during club, branch, or state activities, at times emergency situations still arise. In these times, the highest priority is to focus on a rapid, controlled response to commence a search, or alleviate the situation.

When an emergency or major incident happens, the Water Safety Supervisor/Coach has command and control until either a Patrol Captain or Lifeguard (on patrolled beaches) is available or until an authority (e.g., police or Emergency services) is present and able to take command.
