Teachers maintain the primary responsibility for administering the dress code; and in all circumstances GRACE retains the final authority to determine, in its discretion, whether a student is in compliance with the dress code.
Grades TK-2
When a teacher encounters a student, who is wearing clothing that the teacher believes is outside of the dress code, the teacher will notify the parent either through an email or phone call. If the student is out of dress code repeatedly with the same type violation, the parent may have to bring a change of clothing for the student, although the student will remain in the classroom until the change of clothing is brought. The teacher may gently remind the student, he/she is out of dress code each time.
GRADES 3-6
When a teacher encounters a student, who is wearing clothing that the teacher believes is outside of the dress code, the teacher should have a private conversation with the student to ensure that he/she understands how the clothing does not meet the dress code requirements and then notify the parent either through an email or a phone call.
A second violation of the same nature should be documented in Blackbaud. The teacher should notify the Assistant Principal of the violation, and the Assistant Principal will speak to the student, document the incident, and notify the parent.
Additional violations will be considered a failure to maintain a Biblical attitude of respect and obedience toward school authority and may result in further disciplinary action by the administration.
Upper Campus
Teachers on the Upper Campus should record dress code violations through Blackbaud under Behavior within a particular student’s dashboard.
- If the violation is one concerning modesty, the teacher should complete the Dress Code Violation form and have the student bring the form immediately to the office for further action. Repeat violations will be considered a failure to maintain a Biblical attitude of respect and obedience toward school authority which may result in further disciplinary action.
- Teachers should not admit a student who is inappropriately dressed to class. Teachers are expected to be unified and consistent in their enforcement of the dress code.
- The GRACE dress code is designed as a guide for parents and students on the proper attire for our students. The biblical principles of modesty, purity, obedience and appropriate respect are the standards applied. As Christians, our goal is to glorify God in everything and to be an example to those around us.
