During orientation, the emergency drill procedures will be reviewed with teachers. During the first week of school, teachers should instruct their classes and practice the required procedures. Exit maps should be clearly visible by doorways in every room. These should remain in place all year.

Scheduled Emergency Drills

The first fire and tornado drills will be announced in advance to faculty/staff.
After the first fire and tornado drills, unannounced drills will take place monthly, as required by law.

Emergency Drill Signals

  • Fire Drill – Intermittent horn with strobe lights
  • Tornado Drill – Verbal announcement via intercom
  • Evacuation Drill – Verbal announcement via intercom
  • Code Yellow Drill – Verbal announcement via intercom and written announcement via Groupme
  • Code Red Drill – Verbal announcement via intercom and written announcement via Groupme

Evacuation maps should be posted at the exit of each classroom. Emergency procedures are spelled out completely in the Safe School Plan kept in each room throughout the campus. These guides should be kept in a Grab and Go bag in a clearly visible location in close proximity to the door in each room. Fire and other evacuation procedures are shown under EVACUATION. Tornado drills are listed under TAKING COVER and procedures for securing students in the event of a campus intruder are listed under LOCKDOWN. Teachers should be completely familiar with these procedures at all times.
