Bomb Threat

  • Take ALL threats seriously.
  • Immediately record the caller’s phone number from the Caller Identification screen (if applicable). If by email or text, screenshot or write down the information.
  • The person receiving the call should try to obtain as much information as possible from the caller (bomb location, detonation time, group taking responsibility, reason, etc.) Record this information on the following Bomb Threat Information sheet.
  • The person receiving the call should also immediately notify school administrative officials.
  • School administration officials should immediately call 911.
  • If a suspicious package is observed. DO NOT TOUCH the package! Evacuate immediately and call 911.
  • If the building is evacuated, law enforcement officers will search it prior to re-entry. Do not return to the building until directed to do so by law enforcement officials.

In the event a bomb threat is received by telephone, the individual receiving the information should attempt to record as much information as possible. If possible, the following information should be obtained:

  • Keep the caller on the line as long as possible. Be polite and show interest to keep them talking.
  • DO NOT HANG UP, even if the caller does.
  • If possible, signal or pass a note to other staff to listen and help notify authorities.
  • Write down as much information as possible—caller ID number, exact wording of threat, type of voice or behavior, etc.—that will aid investigators.
  • Record the call, if possible.
