Communications are a critical safety aspect when out on the water. Refer to the PSAR35 Radio module for all radio protocols. Ensure that you consider communications coverage within your area of operation.
Here are some of the key considerations for effectively operating a radio on an RWC:
- Be mindful of background noise due to the engine.
- Try and shield the radio from wind where possible.
- Where possible, don’t use the radio while the RWC is moving.
- Have the radio volume set to an appropriate level to be heard whilst moving.
Pre-Launch
Prior to operating the RWC, ensure that you:
- Sign on to duty with SurfCom (or similar in your state) in line with local SOPs.
- Confirm your operator call sign
- Confirm your area of operation
- Confirm the duration of operation
- Confirm the number of people on board the craft
