Administrators: Maintenance must be contacted and security assistance obtained as needed. Through consultation administrators must ensure that all have been contacted regarding the situation. Reception will be trained on how to activate the Blue Light for warning and this light will be regularly tested to ensure it works.
Classroom Teachers: Instructions will be conveyed to the classrooms via the intercom and/or individual staff, depending on the situation and equipment capability. The following codes will be utilized to reduce the anxiety or fear in students:
“This is a Code Yellow”
Shelter in Place
- Classroom teachers will check that all external doors to their classrooms are locked. Classes may continue but students may not leave the building.
- Elementary classes should not leave the building for recess and Middle/High School classes should not go outside to change classes.
- Identified visitors should be encouraged to remain in the building.
- The Shelter in Place remains in effect until an “all clear” is given by the police or first responders and then given over the intercom.
“This is a Code Red”
Lockdown
- If outside, move away from the threat as far as possible.
- Classroom teachers should lock all doors to the classroom and take roll to account for all students.
- Immediately move all students away from windows and doors.
- Close and lock any open windows, close blinds, turn off all lights, including lights on Apple TV or CleverTouch.
- Silence all electronic devices and remain silent.
- Lockdown remains in effect until law enforcement clears each room.
If law enforcement requires the property to be cleared following a lockdown situation, students will be relocated to the opposite GRACE campus where families will be contacted for student pickup.
