Memorial regarding dialog with the Oriental Orthodox

Whereas the ELCA has had dialog with many of the older churches; and

Whereas many of our dialog partners (i.e. Roman Catholics, Reformed, Anglican and Eastern Orthodox) have dialog with the Oriental Orthodox; and

Whereas the main objection to our undertaking such dialog, that is that the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox would soon be merging, has not materialized, and indeed seems less likely now than ten years ago; be it therefore

Resolved that the West Virginia-Western Synod in Assembly memorialize the ELCA Churchwide Assembly to enter into dialog with the Oriental Orthodox as soon as is practicable.
