Resolution: Ordination Vows

Whereas ordinands are asked to preach and teach according to the scriptures, the creeds and the confessions, and

Whereas they are not asked whether they actually believe the essential tenets contained in these documents, and

Whereas at least some of our ecumenical partners ask ordinands whether they accept the teachings of their church, be it therefore

Resolved that the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod, in assembly memorialize the ELCA to amend the ordination service to ask ordinands whether they actually believe the essential tenets of the Lutheran faith.
