Resolution: Baptism

Memorial regarding ecumenical recognition of baptisms

Whereas there is an agreement in Germany between several different denominations, (specifically the following:
Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church in Germany
Catholic Diocese of Old Catholics in Germany
Ethiopian Orthodox Church
Fellowship of Anglican-Episcopal Congregations in Germany
Evangelical Church in Germany
Evangelical Old Reformed Church in Lower Saxony
Evangelical Methodist Church
Evangelical Unity of Brethren (Herrnhut Brethren)
Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church
Orthodox Church in Germany
Roman Catholic Church.)
whereby they recognize each others baptism; and

Whereas there is no such agreement in the US, and

Whereas, since this agreement has already been examined, and approved by the above bodies, be it therefore

Resolved that the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod, in Assmebly memorialize the ELCA Churchwide Assembly with the appropriate parallel bodies in the United States, with the express aim of adopting the same agreement here.
