It is very important for you to maintain close communication with your parents and guardians prior to departure, in country, and when you return:

  • Inform them of the online forms they may be required to complete (refer to Required Forms for Parents/Guardians in this handbook).
  • Ask them to review the materials provided during orientation as well as the OIE website.
  • Discuss how and when you will contact them after you have arrived, reminding them that you may not be able to get in touch immediately after you arrive.
  • Make sure they know when and where you will be staying, studying, and traveling while you are abroad. You are responsible for giving this information to your parents/guardians. Be sure to include your flight information.
  • Make sure they know how to contact RMC’s Campus Safety.
  • Let them know that, if you are in a remote area, you may not be able to call from there unless you have an emergency.
  • Parents and guardians can also sign up for STEP – even though they are staying at home, they can still receive travel alerts and warnings.
