Media Manager stores and encodes all movies, images and sound files in the Hippotizer system.

Media Manager has different sections

Media Manager follows the convention that a Host Selector on the left of the screen chooses which media manager is shown on the right.

Host selector

Displays each system on the network.

Clicking the circle to the left of the host will show or hide the folder tree of that host.

The circle’s colour indicates the status of the media manager on that host.

  • Green: Normal operation.
  • Blue: Media manager on that host is busy either uploading or encoding content.
  • Yellow Caution: Free Space on the media drive is at 10% or less.
  • Red Error: Media Manager has an error or drive space is below 3%.

Hovering the mouse over the circle will show the details of the status.

The arrow icon to the right of the host name indicates if the system is configured for sync.

If the host has never had sync configured the icon will be grey

If the host has been configured for sync then the icon will be green.

Clicking the green icon will sync the host to the previously configured targets.

This bar will show if the media cache is up to date, across all systems.

The media cache will be used when a page containing a media map is loaded. The media cache will make the loading of these pages much quicker.

Folder Tree

Media is organised into virtual folders in each Media Manager.

The All Media and Root folders are created by default and cannot be deleted.

  • The root is the folder at the base of the folder tree.
  • The All Media folder displays all the media in the Media Manager regardless of what folder they are in.

Selected Folder’s Media

Once a folder is selected, its media will display in the main pane of the interface.

Displays each clip as it’s thumbnail.

Displays media as a list with details.

Media in either thumbnail or detailed view can be selected to add it to the media map.

  • Left mouse click will toggle selection for each clip
  • Holding CTRL while clicking will add to the current selection
  • Holding SHIFT while clicking will toggle all clips between the selection
  • A number will appear as clips are selected to indicate the order that they will be added to the media map.
  • To add a selection to the media map, drag and drop it on a bank to add it from slot 0, or drop it directly onto a clip.

Shows Media Manager Settings. Please see encoding media for more information.

Disk Usage

Disk Usage indicates how much space is used on the drive containing the strata folder.

  • At 10% free space the Media Manager component will be set to a yellow caution state.
  • At 3% free space the Media Manager component will be set to a red error state and will refuse to encode additional media.

Media Upload

Uploading media allows external movie and audio files to be encoded into Hippotizer.

  • Upload Files allows for single files to be choosen
  • Upload Folders allows for whole folders to be encoded.
  • When uploading image sequences and using the upload file option, choose a single image from the sequence to encode the entire sequence.

Please see the section on Encoding media for more information.

Media Map

The media map is the reference that Hippotizer uses to play media.

  • In order to play a piece of media it must first be encoded and then added to the media map
  • A single piece of media can be in multiple locations in the media map
  • Any changes to the media map take effect immediately

Media Map Options

Display options for the media map are shown to the right of it.

Increases and decreases the number of clips shown per line.

When green, the media map can be edited. Click to lock, which shows red, and blocks editing the map until unlocked.

Enable to show Tags instead of media. See the Notes and Tags section for more information.
