Fire Evacuation

Immediately evacuate the building at the sound of the fire alarm or notification to evacuate via the public address system.
Students should leave the classroom single file and proceed outside to the designated area, with no talking, running, or pushing, but with orderly, rapid walking.
The first student is a key person and should lead the class. Do not stop until reaching the designated area unless there is need to divert due to a dangerous situation. The last student exiting (preferably a teacher) a section of the building should close the outside doors.
Before leaving the classroom, teachers should:
- check to make sure all students are out,
- take the Grab and Go Bag,
- turn out the lights,
- close the door (unlocked),
- walk near the end of the class line.
If an area is barricaded, use the next nearest safe exit.
After reaching designated area: Teacher should take roll using the roster in the front of the Emergency Action Plan binder. Remind students there is no talking. A staff member will notify the administration of any missing students.
School administration will give a verbal or manual “all clear” to return to the building after the fire officials have determined the building to be safe.
