Camp Luther report to the assembly

Greetings from Camp Luther!

We are once again preparing to meet on the hillsides of Camp Caesar in Cowen, WV, to host Camp Luther 2023! Last year we had a wonderful camp experience with 123 campers and 72 staff. We had an amazing belated celebration for the 75th anniversary with an all-camp birthday party complete with games, food, and a bounce house waterslide. 2022 was the 7th year of Pr. Jason Felici’s 4-year-term as director. His first year being the unforgettable year of “The Flood” and his final years punctuated with Covid-19. We are so grateful for Pr. Jason’s leadership for these 7 years. He has led well and brought Camp Luther through some difficult times with grace and dignity, keeping our eyes always on the mission. Thank you Pr. Jason!

In 2023 we hope to recover our pre-pandemic numbers. With confidence we have welcomed staff, and we are actively preparing to provide an exciting camp experience for our children and youth. The theme this year is Holy Trinity, Wholly Love. Through our activities, classes, and worship, we will seek to know God more fully and to know ourselves more wholly. Our staff is already meeting for spiritual renewal seeking to grow in faith so that we will be better prepared to share faith with our campers.

We ask that you would pray for our staff as we prepare, and our campers as the registration forms roll in. Spread the word that campers will be warmly welcomed at Camp Luther, and encourage your children and youth (those who have completed 3rd grade through 12th grade) to come to camp. There they will find their home away from home.

Respectfully submitted,
Pr. Karen Erskine-Valentine
Director, Camp Luther
