The SLSA Hall of Fame is an integral part of recognising the achievements and efforts of members in the Surf Life Saving (SLS) movement. The Hall of Fame permanently displays, commemorates and recognises members and teams who have achieved outstanding accomplishments and exceptional contributions to the development of SLS in Australia.

Essential criteria

The following criteria will be taken into consideration for each nomination:
Nominations must clearly demonstrate that individuals or teams have:

  • Displayed exceptional service to surf lifesaving in the specific category
  • Achieved outstanding individual or team accomplishments which sets the individual or team apart from other surf lifesavers or teams
  • Displayed sustained excellence over a long period of time to the category for which they are nominated
  • Demonstrated Integrity and Sportsmanship *.

Selection Criteria

Each award is allocated under the following categories:

  • Surf Lifesaving

This category recognises those who have been involved in all facets of surf lifesaving operations.
Examples are active patrolling, rescue services, training/education and examination (assessing), and the general support activities involved in beach patrols, search and rescue, surveillance, major innovation, and international role in the saving of lives.

Minimum criteria
a. Key lifesaving development roles within SLSA where the individual has displayed exceptional service and demonstrated significant contribution to the development and sustainability of lifesaving at a National level
b. Key roles in developing lifesaving in difficult times (regional areas, early pioneering years, etc.)
c. Development of key lifesaving techniques and/or equipment which will benefit life savers Australia wide
d. Key lifesaving roles for significant periods in large regions (e.g. Queensland, NSW, etc. can be taken into consideration)

  • Surf Lifesaving – Leadership

This category recognises those involved in leadership aspects of surf lifesaving at a National level.

Minimum criteria
a. Key SLSA roles where the individual has displayed exceptional service and demonstrated significant contribution to the development and sustainability of the organisation
b. Key SLSA roles in difficult times (regional areas, early pioneering years, volatility, etc.)
c. SLSA pioneers
d. Key executive roles within states in difficult times (regional areas, early pioneering years, volatility, etc.)
e. Key role in the establishment of state centres and other operations as an administrator
f. Members that have given their time to leadership roles in areas of development, lifesaving or sport which have benefited all members at a National level

  • Surf Lifesaving- Sport

This category recognises those involved in leadership aspects of surf lifesaving at a National level.

Surf Boats (Sweeps, Boat Crews, Rowers)
Surf Ski & Surf Board Events (Single Ski, Double Ski, Surf Board Race)
Surf Board Riding (Long Board, Short Board)
Multi-Discipline Events (Iron Person, Coolangatta Gold)
Beach Events (Beach Sprint, Beach Flags, 2km Run)

  • Masters Legends

Women

Would require outstanding results from Australian Masters Championships over a period of 15 years and 3 age groups.

Men

Would require outstanding results from Australian Masters Championships over a period of 20 years and 4 age groups.

For a member to be considered for induction into Hall Of Fame – Sport, a member will have had to accumulate at least 100 points using the below point score criteria. Note that the achievement of 100 points qualifies the member for consideration and does not by itself automatically admit a person into the Hall Of Fame – Sport category.
