The variables that the optimisation problem can consider are determined by 3 overriding factors:
- The optimisation universe;
- The defined scope of the advice;
- Strategy settings dictated by the adviser.
Optimisation universe
The optimisation universe is defined by the generic assumptions and specific product options.
Scope of the advice
The variables are further constrained by the scope of the advice. Each recommendation possibility within the optimisation universe is linked to a specified scope of advice condition. If this is not set to yes, this parent recommendation will be eliminated from the list of possible recommendations.
Strategy settings
Finally, an adviser has the capacity to turn off specific advice options via the strategy settings option. This will further constrain the list of possible recommendations. Please refer to appendix 3 for a full list of strategy setting options.
