Adjusted taxable income plus deemed income from certain account based pensions from 1 January 2015

Deemed income from account based pensions is not included in the income test for Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC) where the pension commenced on or before 31 December 2014 provided the CSHC is held continuously from 31 December 2014

Cut-out threshold – single

Thresholds increased by $639.60 for each dependent child cared for.

Eligibility criteria

A claimant must:

  • be an Australian resident, living in Australia
  • not be subject to a newly arrived residents waiting period
  • have reached Age Pension age but not qualify for Age Pension (or not receive certain other Social Security/Veterans’ Affairs pensions/benefits)

Those who lose their Age Pension entitlement because of the asset test changes effective from 1 January 2017 will automatically qualify for the CSHC

Indexation

Income thresholds indexed each 20 September in line with CPI

 

Note: Energy Supplement payments are only paid to CSHC holders who have continuously held the card since 19 September 2016.
