All authorised firms have been allocated to one of two categories:
1. Fixed Portfolio Firms
2. Flexible Portfolio Firms
Fixed portfolio firms have an ongoing, proactive relationship with the FCA. These are the largest firms and groups across both retail and wholesale markets and as such are subject to an ongoing cycle of supervision.
Flexible portfolio firms are supervised through thematic and market-based work (thematic reviews), along with programmes of communication, engagement and education activity (consultations, policy statements, finalised guidance). The programme is aligned to the key risks identified in the relevant sector.
Most firms fall into the flexible portfolio framework.
