Our Victorian lifesaving members each play a critical role in ensuring the safety of visitors to Victorian waterways – and we’re looking to grow our family!
With more visitors to Victorian waterways each year, we rely on our volunteers and members to help ensure public safety. From volunteering between the flags to running a barbeque for our future lifesavers, there are so many diverse volunteering opportunities for every age, background and ability.
Life Saving Victoria have developed a pack of member recruitment assets for clubs to utilisie and align with this year’s member recruitment campaign. The theme is:
You never know how you’ll grow in lifesaving
This theme is to celebrate the amazing things members can achieve when they join a club. We have highlighted this through member profiles, each designed to attract a different audience.
We’d love to see you use the assets as part of your own campaigns to help attract new members and encourage previous members to join. They include:
- social media tiles and stories
- posters
- digital assets (web and enews banners)
- Four fantastic videos profiling our members, plus reels for your stories
Member Recruitment Kit
Clubs can access the recruitment assets here – Member recruitment kit
We encourage clubs to not only make use of these assets during the pre-season period of member recruitment, but throughout the season to further promote your programs and opportunities.

Lucy Dripps – Nippers
Lucy’s journey started by signing her kids up to nippers. Nippers is a great way for kids to learn about water safety, develop skills and make new friends. All 5 of Lucy’s children went through the nippers program and are still involved in lifesaving many years later!
Lucy didn’t intend to start volunteering herself, however when she saw how much her kids were learning and growing through the nippers program, she wanted to be a part of the fun. Now that her kids are older, she has begun to make the most of opportunities for her own personal development too!

Ron Johnstone – Lifelong involvement
Ron became a member after moving to a new town so that he could meet new people and stay fit and active. After joining and undertaking training, he started regularly patrolling the beach and keeping people safe around the water. Being outdoors helped him find balance with his working life. Later, he was able to make the most of opportunities available to him.
60 years later, Ron is still a member and has had some amazing experiences as a result. Now, three generations of Ron’s family are members and they have made family memories while patrolling together. Ron now volunteers by officiating at lifesaving sport events.

Reagan Morel – Family and community
Reagan’s parents signed him up to nippers so that he could learn water safety and meet other young locals and become a part of the community.
Although it was never his plan to become a club member, he hasn’t looked back since! He has achieved so many great things, developed his leadership and water safety skills and learned which he takes with him everywhere he goes. He has met locals and visitors alike and loves that his club members are like an extended family to him. Reagan and his whole family are club members and they all volunteer and contribute in different ways.

Sas McNamara – Lifesaving services
Sas started her journey as a nipper and was obsessed from the get go! She now competes in lifesaving sport, manages 10 patrols and more than 600 volunteers. Sas has a love for inflatable rescue boats (IRBs) and competes in racing – she’s taken home a number of podium finishes and it’s all helped her become a better lifesaver.
