Our model of working together across our mission is via an affiliated model. We are stronger when we work together. Affiliation is a legal method for two organisations to officially connect with each other, with mutual benefits. The Affiliation process is an annual activity.
Affiliation with LSV means that the club is bound by the constitution and by-laws of its parent associations (both LSV and SLSA). The club’s constitution must be consistent with the LSV constitution, and the club cannot have conflicting rules such as minimum ages, membership categories etc. Clubs should consult the LSV constitution and by-laws before writing the club constitution (see the section 3.3 Constitution).
a) Benefits of Affiliation
Affiliation to LSV entitles Clubs to many benefits, such as:
- Recognition and inclusion
- Insurance and risk
- Access to aquatic sport
- Access to grant funding
- Training
- General support
By affiliating with LSV, Clubs agree to abide by the Constitution and regulations of Life Saving Victoria and SLSA.
b) Completing Affiliation Forms
The following steps outline the affiliation process:
- Affiliation with LSV must be sought annually
- LSV publishes an annual reminder notification outlining requirements for affiliating with LSV and provides a copy of the Application.
- At a duly constituted meeting, (i.e. AGM), the Club must formally declare affiliation to LSV. This must be recorded in the meeting agenda and meeting minutes
- The Club completes the Affiliation Form indicating affiliation with LSV
- The Club pays the Affiliation Fee
- The Club retains a copy of the Affiliation confirmation letter for Club records
Any changes to the Club’s Constitution or nominated representatives should be lodged in conjunction with the Affiliation Form.
Note: Clubs are not required to affiliate directly with SLSA.
