AARP Foundation Volunteer and Youth Protection Policy
The AARP Foundation has an established Volunteer and Youth Protection Policy to protect volunteers, students and all who are engaged in our program. In brief, this policy serves to:
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for volunteers: All Experience Corps program volunteers are expected to comply with policies on civil behavior and conduct described within the policy. These policies are intended to provide a clear understanding of expectations and outcomes as well as provide for the protection of volunteers regarding proper conduct.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for students: AARP Foundation Experience Corps places the safety of children as its highest priority. In support of this, volunteers must undergo rigorous background testing prior to any interactions with children in the schools. Additionally, AARP Experience Corps volunteers are required to follow the interaction guidelines as detailed within the policies for the protection of the child and the volunteer.
- Ensure confidentiality of program and student information: Everyone associated with our program has a responsibility to protect proprietary and confidential information (including student and volunteer information), even after they leave the AARP Foundation Experience Corps program.
- Provide a system of response to potential incidences of harassments, abuse and/or misconduct: AARP Foundation Experience Corps has established a system for reporting and responding to violations of policy as well as incidents of harassment, discrimination or abuse.
Your local program team is responsible for reviewing the details of the policy with you. Volunteers must commit to upholding this policy as part of the service agreement. Review the AARP Foundation Volunteer and Youth Protection Policy.
AARP Foundation Experience Corps Covid-19 Volunteer Safety Policy
The Covid-19 pandemic required us to halt in-person tutoring. To safely resume in-person services, policies were crafted to protect the health of staff, volunteers and students. These policies include questions about volunteer symptoms and exposure to persons testing positive for COVID-19 and are intended to complement local public health policies. Program staff will make sure all volunteers understand and acknowledge these policies as well as all local health policies before beginning in-person services.
