Child Safe Policy

SLS aims to respect and protect the safety and wellbeing of all members, including Children and Young People (CYP).

All people within SLSNSW – regardless of role or level of responsibility, must;

  • Implement the SLSA Child Safe Policy and Code of Conduct and keep CYP safe from harm
  • Identify and Report – behaviours and information that provide a risk to CYP safety or there is a reasonable belief that abuse or neglect may have occurred.
  • Report Child Safety abuse or neglect concerns through the SLS complaint processes and/or external authorities e.g the Police, regardless of whether that abuse is being perpetrated by;
  • Volunteers,
  • Members,
  • Employees within Surf Life Saving;
  • People outside SLS, including the CYP’s family and friends, extended family and friends, or strangers.

Working with Children Checks (WWCC)

SLS Members who work in paid or voluntary positions with children under the age of 18 must complete a WWCC, unless their role falls within one of the scheme’s defined exemptions.

WWCC requirements and frequently asked questions can be found here.
