If you are currently seeking counseling, make sure to consult with your therapist and discuss how to prepare yourself for traveling abroad. Remember, actual experiences abroad may be different from your expectations, and international travel and adjusting to a new culture can be stressful. Discussing potential stressors and coping techniques ahead of time is very helpful.

  • With regards to medications, students are responsible for knowing how to take them, and what can and cannot be consumed (i.e. alcohol) while taking their medications. In the case of study/travel courses, it is not the duty of the professor to administer medications; it is the students’ obligation to take their medications responsibly!
  • Research whether there are any restrictions on your psychiatric medication in your host country. Some medications require advance permission, or could be banned altogether.
