If You Are in a Foreign Country Involved in a Crisis:
- Your first option should be to contact your closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate
- While overseas, you may also call the Office of Overseas Citizens Services at 1-202-501-4444 during business hours. During non-business hours, please call 202-647-4000 and ask for the duty officer.
- Be sure to register with the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) online before departure.
- Monitor the U.S. Embassy (https://www.usembassy.gov/) and State Department (http://www.state.gov/) home pages.

IMG should be used for assistance in locating a facility if needed and for expenses that are over $500 USD.
Anything that is expected to be under $500 USD is done on a reimbursement basis.
