If you are using Orchid Core VMS with Linux, these tips will help you navigate the system so that you can perform tasks and find files faster.

Open a Terminal:

  1. Access a Linux command line terminal to perform system administration tasks by pressing Ctrl-Alt-T.

Navigate the filesystem using a few simple commands:

pwd
Show the working (current) directory

ls
List the contents of the working directory

ls -lh --color
List detailed contents of the working directory

cd directory (where directory is the name of a directory)
Change to a new working directory

cd ..
Go up one directory

mv src dst (where src is the source and dst is the destination)
Move a file or directory

cp src dst (where src is the source and dst is the destination)
Copy a file

nano file (where file is the file you want to edit)
Edit a text file

sudo cmd (where cmd is the command you want to run)
Run any command (editing a file, for example) as the superuser (root/Administrator).

sudo gedit
Open a graphical text editor with superuser permission
