Each classroom teacher is expected to maintain appropriate behavior in the classroom context and distributes and discusses Classroom Behavior Guidelines at the beginning of the school year. Most behavior problems occur and are handled at the classroom level.

When serious behavior problems occur, or when a student does not respond to correction by the classroom teacher, the teacher of the student with the alleged misconduct notifies the Principal. The Principal may address the notification in one of several ways:

  • After-school detention, work assignments, special projects, etc.
  • Conference with the student’s parents
  • Social Probation —a student is prohibited from participation in activities such as athletic teams, school trips, music groups, etc.
  • Saturday Intervention —a student and parent comes to school on Saturday and is supervised by the Principal while fulfilling a mandatory work detail.
  • Suspension —a student is sent home for a specified period of time, and parents must meet with the Principal before the student returns.
  • Expulsion —a student must leave school and may not re-enroll.
