Please read the following sections carefully about the following RMC formalities to take care in the semester before you leave to go abroad:
Student Code of Conduct
The College’s Student Handbook and Conduct Code applies equally to behavior that occurs on or off College property, including while studying abroad. Therefore, any reported incident and subsequent disciplinary proceeding may proceed, as outlined in the Student Conduct Code and Sexual and Relationship Conduct Policy, even if any party is studying abroad. Any sanction(s) as a result of a disciplinary proceeding may result in immediate action(s), including but not limited to suspension or expulsion that can result in an immediate removal from a study abroad program at the student’s expense and lost academic credit(s).
Orientation
The OIE holds pre-departure and re-entry sessions for all students who participate in a semester or year abroad program, and these are REQUIRED. The dates for your re-entry meetings will be determined once you return to RMC’s campus.
Registration for Classes
Even though you plan to be away next semester, consider registering for classes at RMC. Should your plans change at the last minute, you will not have difficulties getting into the classes you want and need. If you do choose to enroll in courses at RMC during the semester you will be away, make sure you drop your courses by August 1st for Fall study abroad and January 15th for Spring study abroad. Students are subject to Business Office policies and withdrawing from your courses after the add/drop date could result in hefty fees. You will need to register for next semester’s classes while you are abroad. Be sure to keep in touch with your academic advisor. The Study Abroad Program Coordinator will send an email to the email address you provide to remind you when that date is approaching.
Campus Housing
- The OIE provides a list of all semester abroad students to the Office of Residence Life, Business Office, Registrar, and Financial Aid.
- When you leave campus at the end of semester (or after J-term, depending on your program dates), clear out your room entirely and return your key to Res Life, but keep your fob and card.
- Communicate with the Office of Residential Life (residencelife@rmc.edu) to arrange for housing after your return. You will participate in housing selection for next fall in absentia. Sophomores will be assigned a number and can email Res Life designating the person they give permission to select a room on their behalf. You should write the email to Res Life and copy that designated person on the email. Juniors abroad follow the same procedures as anyone else to apply for senior housing options.
- Please think about your housing needs and get in touch with Res Life before you leave campus if you want to discuss your specific housing situation/needs.
Snail Mail
- RMC’s mail room can hold your mail or forward first-class mail to an address in the USA; let them know your preference.
- The mail room cannot forward magazines, “junk mail,” etc. The mail room cannot forward mail overseas, since the postage will not cover overseas mailing.
- Once you know your mailing address overseas, share it with friends and family and the Office of International Education.
