Let people know you’ve arrived safely

  • Contact your family and the OIE at RMC as soon as you reasonably can after you arrive at your semester abroad destination and again when you return home after your term. OIE will continue its efforts to reach you until we know that you have arrived safely!

Keep in touch with OIE

  • Send us your new mailing address and telephone number.
  • E-mail is our primary means of communication with students abroad. It is important that we always have your current email address, and that you check it often!
  • If you need to change a class and take something not listed on your Semester Abroad Credit Permission Form, contact our office and your academic advisor immediately. We want to ensure you have no trouble getting credit for the classes you take abroad when you return to Randolph-Macon.
  • If your place of residence, telephone number or email should change, notify our office.

Recording your experience

  • We strongly urge you to keep some record of your experience that you can look back on. New impressions and experiences will take place so fast in your first few weeks that there may be little time to reflect on them. You might write in a journal or start a blog, or consider a video blog or photo diary of your new surroundings.
  • Keep the syllabi, tests and term papers for all courses you take while abroad and bring them back when you return to the US. These may be valuable when discussing what you learned with RMC professors or in evaluating course equivalencies.
  • ENJOY! Keep in touch, and don’t hesitate to let us know if we can be of any assistance to you. We can’t wait to hear your stories!
