Many factors drive the capabilities of a Hippotizer. Here are some best practice tips to get the most out of the server.
Use the least number of viewports possible.
Rendering a viewport is computationally heavy; aim to use as few as possible.
While there is no set limit, using more than two viewports per output will noticeably impact performance.
Tips to reduce viewports:
- Use Videomapper instead of viewports to transpose from a single mix to a single output.
- Use sub-mixes and relays when compositing lots of mixes onto a single output. (eg. Run several mixes, patching only one ‘main mix’ to the output and use relays to composite onto the main mix).
- Use the overlapping viewport function in Output Manger to create ‘frames’ and other complex shapes thus requiring viewports.
- Make sure to use Virtual Viewports when there are five or more viewports.
Use High Performance Mode
High Performance Mode disables previews and the visualiser offering a significant boost to performance and smoothness. NDI Send is disabled in this mode.
Systems with lots of mixes and layers and/or very high resolution mixes will benefit the most from using High Performance Mode.
Run Zookeeper on a Remote Machine.
Zookeeper, like any program, uses some of the computer’s resources; running it on a separate machine will improve performance.
