The Network Device Interface (NDI) is a method of transferring video over the network.

Developed by NewTek, NDI is a commonly used method to send video around a local network. NDI has a variety of tools freely available for download to send video from popular 3rd party applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud or the Unreal Engine.

Newtek offers many applications for download here:

Below is information on receiving NDI. For more information about sending NDI please see here.

NDI on each layer

Receiving NDI has several settings:

Refresh List

When pressed, the list of NDI sources detected on the network will be updated. The list is only updated when Refresh list is pressed.

In order to ensure consistent indexing, sources that are no longer online are not deleted on a list refresh. To reset the source list use the clean show option in Hippo Launch.

NDI Source Dropdown

Displays an indexed list of the NDI Sources on the local network. Choosing a source on the list will begin capturing it.

Source Online

When green, the selected source is sending video. If grey, the selected source is not sending.

Replacing Screen Thief.

NDI offers superior performance and a wider variety of supporting platforms then screen thief did. Though there are many NDI sender applications available that offer similar functionality to screen thief. Green Hippo has tested, and recommends NDI Scan Converter available for free download as part of Newtek’s NDI Tools.
