What’s the difference between a User, a Player, and an Entry?

Here’s a brief description of the distinction between these terms:

Each person will register an account on the website with a unique User Name and password. This is what you log in with to access the forum and any pools you are in. This is your permanent account and you only ever have to do this once, regardless of how many pools you are in.

When you join a pool you become a Player in that pool. Your Player Name in a pool is the same as your account User Name.

Some pools allow a player to have more than one Entry, so part of the pool joining process is to declare how many entries you want.

When you are logged into the site, you have access to all of your entries for all pools you are in. You don’t need to log in separately for separate pools or entries within a pool. Each entry will have a unique name which identifies it. This default names for your entries are your User Name plus a sequence# beginning with 01. Eg, if user “Fred Flintstone” is in a pool with 3 entries, they will be identified as “Fred Flintstone_01”, “Fred Flintstone_02”, “Fred Flintstone_03”.

However, before the pool is in progress (during the signup period), you can rename your entries to anything you want, to help you identify them more easily. Eg, if two of Fred Flintstone’s three entries are really for his kids, he could rename them “Pebbles” and “BamBam” and then his entries would be identified as “Fred Flintstone_01”, “Pebbles”, and “BamBam”.

You may change them before the pool begins, but once it starts, the entry names are locked in and may not be changed.

Your User Name, Player Name, and Entry Names are all public information, so don’t choose anything too personal. Real names and email addresses are never shown to the public or used for anything outside of Zathras & Wubba’s King of the Hill.
