Hippotizer is continuously being developed and improved; please read these notes carefully to understand the changes and limitations with each version.
Software Assurance Release Date: 2-Feb-2020.
Software Assurance is changing as of 4.6.0 to include the number of included feature releases. Please see the Software Assurance Policy section of this manual for more information.
All V4 and V4+ systems with Software Assurance valid as of 02-Feb-2020 can install 4.6.0.
Software Assurance determines what version of Hippotizer will install and run on a system. Once installed, software will continue to function indefinitely.
Features added in 4.6.0
Timeline+ A brand new timeline UI and toolset has arrived. Located from the home page of ZooKeeper this timeline has been revised and optimised for greater performance and operation for any show. Coupled with the new and improved visualizer, editing and programming shows has never been easier.
Visualizer The visualizer has seen a great change from its original inception. This new version utilises project files from our 3D software SHAPE to provide a digital representation of your screen configuration and content playback.
MPCDI Integration You can now load a MPCDI file into the Viewport for projector position, blending, masking and colour information generated from third-party software.
NonXFade mix type The NonXFade mix type disables the crossfade options on a layer at the benefit of system performance. Expect higher layer counts and lower resource utilisation using this new mix type in Output Manager.
Special Mix Type The new mix type unlocks specific tools for Notch effected layers and mixes.
1 Layer mode We now allow users to create a single layer mix in OutputManager, using this alongside the crossfade feature will provide great performance for single layer playback configuration.
24 Layer Mode For larger scale shows and our most powerful machines Hippotizer now supports 24 layer mixes. This gives even greater options from a single mix for compositing large arrangements of content. Utilise this with the NonXFade layer mode and expect to see rewarding system performance.
RFID Reader Support RFID is now fully supported in the Multicontroller component, you can find the new RFID Reader in Control sources. Configure your RFID devices to trigger any number of commands from the MultiController component.
Live Clock Support The new MultiController Control Source type clock source has three options for generating a time, geographic localisation, Time Zones and NTP servers. Use this source to schedule pin control within the Hippotizer system.
Media Manager Progress Bars Media Manager now has progress bars for each client as data is shared on startup.
New Texture Mapper Types SHAPE now has added a UV, Spherical, Cylindrical and Radial Texture Mapper for greater flexibility mapping content onto models in a 3d environment.
Case Study Mode Added extra Case Study modes providing a more detailed pre production workflow for projection based project planning and visualisation.
Functionality Changes in 4.6.0
- MediaManager now caches a local set of data to help with ZooKeeper performance at startup
- OutputManager ‘default’ mix type has been replaced with the ‘XFade’ mix type. In addition a ‘NonXFade’ mix type is now available which removes the hidden layer for each layer using less system resources, and a ‘Special’ type for Notch utilisation.
- The visualiser is no longer included in Hippotizer and has been replaced with the SHAPE visualiser accessible from the ZooKeeper home page.
- Timeline has been removed from the homepage and replaced with Timeline+. The original timeline component can still be added in the configuration page as a component.
- Added a new ‘Layer Lite’ personality in the DMX2 component to minimise the component system resource usage on larger shows.
Fixes in 4.6.0
- Fixed logs being spammed with notices from MANet when open in DMX2 but toggled off.
- Made optimisations for Tierra CPU affinity function.
- Fixed a GUI bug in the HippoLauncher which showed a blank screen on some V4 systems.
- Fixed an issue when importing a VideoMapper multiple times causing a ‘Generic function error’.
- Fixed a bug where editing in PixelMapper split view would reset fixtures properties.
- Fixed a ZooKeeper crash when selecting different audio devices in the Mix Master.
- Stopped VideoMapper loading settings on each DMX update.
- Colour blocks now correctly starts broadcasting on sACN after a Universe change.
- Added ability to import textures associated with a model and assign them to the correct geometry.
- SHAPE is now integrated with the Green Hippo installer.
- SHAPE Root pins have been moved from Viewport to their own Group inside Hippotizer.
- Display mode is now defaulted to Textured.
- Improved performance using the SHAPE standalone program.
- Invert X & Y added to Texture Mappers.
Known issues in 4.6.0
- Using Notch blocks generated from newer versions of Notch Builder can cause engine crashes. In this case please update the CMDongle firmware to v4.1 or later.
- The outpoint pin when controlled via DMX can become unresponsive.
- PauseOnDark when used on crossfade layer may not pause content after a crossfade. Use the InPoint play mode to cue content instead of PauseOnDark.
- When creating command pins in the Timeline+ editor if you have a command pin selected and create a new pin the first one is unselectable.
- Using the Timeline+ quick access button may not shown all timelines in the Timeline List window
- Layer previews and thumbnails are not available using CITP.
- Live Mask ‘Add New’ and ‘Rename’ popups currently don’t display. (Press enter to confirm hidden window and have access)
- Configuring the OutputManager, navigating away and then configuring OutputManager again crashes ZooKeeper.
- Having more then 10 Mixes and viewports can cause ordering issues in the relay list.
Announcement: DMX Outpoint Announcement
In order to cater for increasingly longer clips being loaded into media servers the OutPoint pin used in the media player uses a 24-bit encoder. The max Outpoint length for this encoder is approximately 6 days, therefore it is easy to skip beyond the end of a layer clip. It is advised to use the ultra-fine control on a console to control the outpoint to give users control frame by frame. A document explaining this pins functionality and implementation can be found on the Hippotizer support site.

Notes
- *Content encoded from ProRes 444 may show a slight colour shift compared to the original due to an issue in the 3rd party media encoder. The ProRes 444 family also has limited support in Windows so it is best to test the specific codec and resolution when establishing a content workflow.
- **As of Version 4.2, HAP content can be ingested without transcode.
Martin P3-PC compatibility
Hippotizer can send video directly to the Martin P3-PC application running on the same machine, this requires a P3 Dongle.
The version of P3-PC and Hippotizer is important to ensure correct operation:
Hippotizer Version | P3-PC Version |
4.1 | 4.2 |
4.2 – 4.2.2 | 4.2.2 |
4.3 | 4.3.1 |
4.3.1 – 4.5.3 | 4.3.1 |
Current CITP Support
CITP (Capture Interface Transport Protocol) is an open network protocol to allow visualisation software and lighting desks to exchange thumbnails and streaming previews from media servers. Green Hippo works to ensure CITP is working correctly with as many 3rd party applications as possible. Here is a list of currently tested systems against this version.

- If using Quad SDI and Dual DP capture cards we recommend Datapath Driver version 17.19.4
Capture drivers are now included with the installer.
When installing Hippotizer software you will be asked if capture card(s) are fitted. If yes, the installer will automatically deploy the correct drivers.
If a copy of the driver installer is needed, it will be placed on the Hippotizer at this location:
C:\Program Files\GreenHippo\HippotizerV4\ThirdParty\Datapath_Vision_V7.19.4
