Ensure safety of the products kept in refrigerator/freezer
The Fridge-tag Alarming Unit does not replace the functionality of the Fridge-tag device. It does only amplify events detected by the Fridge-tag device. For information of the events, always refer to the Fridge-tag device.
The user must verify that no temperature excursion is noted by the Fridge-tag before a product is taken from refrigerator/freezer. If a temperature excursion is detected, the user may have certain obligations established by (local) regulation. It is the user’s responsibility to understand these regulatory obligations and to act accordingly.
Warnings & Precautions
Points to be addressed by the user are, but not limited to:
- The Fridge-tag Alarming Unit must be properly mounted. The external temperature sensor and the Fridge-tag device must be correctly installed and attached to the Fridge-tag Alarming Unit as described in this manual. Ensure that the LEDs of the Fridge-tag Alarming Unit can be read and the audible warnings can be heard by personnel operating the refrigerator/freezer.
- The Fridge-tag Alarming Unit must be activated as described in this manual.
- The user needs to ensure that physical access to the Fridge-tag Alarming Unit and the refrigerator/freezer is limited to authorized personnel only. Failing to do so can lead to malicious manipulation of the measurement system e.g. removal of temperature sensor or Fridge-tag, unauthenticated use of the device, such as alarm confirmation, unauthorized access to information, unauthorized configuration change / settings change / date time change.
- The user needs to provide training to personnel.
- In case of an alarm, the user is required to investigate the root cause and confirm the alarm on the connected Fridge-tag device. Alarms cannot be confirmed on the Alarming Unit. Without alarm confirmation, the device assumes that the root cause has not been solved and will not raise a new alarm. The device does not document who confirmed the alarm. If the user needs this information, the documentation is responsibility of customer, including limiting the physical access to the device.
- It is recommended to check the functionality of the device, whenever the Fridge-tag or the External sensor has been disconnected and reconnected again.
Other considerations
Warnings & Precautions of the connected Fridge-tag devices have to be checked as well.
Battery
The Fridge-tag Alarming Unit contains four AAA Alkaline batteries (LR03). Please, pay strict attention to the following points:
- The batteries can be replaced by the user at the end of the battery life time.
- Only use 1.5V Battery cells of the type LR03
- Only open the housing of the Alarming Unit at the intended cover at the bottom. Use not sharp tools to open the cover
- Never expose the Fridge-tag Alarming Unit to high temperatures (fire, oven, microwaves, etc.). It may cause injuries.
- Always keep the Fridge-tag Alarming Unit out of the reach of children.
- Dispose or recycle the Fridge-tag Alarming Unit and its Batteries in accordance with the WEEE 2012/19/EU guidelines or your local regulations. The device may also be returned to the manufacturer for proper recycling.
Useful life
The device does not expire together with the connected Fridge-tag device or the external sensor. Therefore, it can be used longer, provided the batteries are exchanged regularly.
End of the battery lifetime is indicated by the device’s “Low Battery-LED” (see chapter Low Battery alarm).
- To guarantee proper functionality, change the batteries within one week after the indication starts.
- The batteries of the device last for 2 years, in normal running conditions.
Battery lifetime may be reduced by: - Frequent events
- Ageing of the batteries
- storage and operation of the device outside the recommendations of the manufacturer. Especially temperatures below 0°C or +32°F could have a negative influence for the operating lifetime of the battery.
