The auto-save option instructs MIPAR to save images as they are captured off the microscope. It is enabled through the Auto Save Captured checkbox (1).

When auto-save is enabled for the first time, the Auto Save Settings window will appear. This window can also be accessed through the Auto Save Settings button (2) next to the Auto Save Checkbox. This allows the user to control the following aspects of the auto-save process:

  • Save location (3)
  • Common image name prefix (4)
  • Unique image identifiers (5)
  • Image file format (6)

Unique Image Identifiers

Auto-save offers two different unique identifiers: image number and capture timestamp. These identifiers will be appended to the image file name. At least one of these options must be chosen.

For image number, there is also a setting to control the minimum number of digits to use for this number. File numbers with less than the specified number of digits will be padded with leading zeros. For example, image number “12” with a 3-digit number field will be inserted into the file name as “012”. When determining which image number is next, the algorithm looks only at the image name prefix, ignoring any timestamps. It also skips missing numbers. For example, in a folder with “image_01.png” and “image_03_2023-02-03_11-02-41.482.png”, with 3 digits and no timestamp, the next auto-saved image will be named “image_004.png”.
