SHAPE 4.2 introduced a new style importer, it allows you to choose on import, what meshes to import and the option to convert cameras into projectors, perspective texture mappers or planar mappers. Ensuring your texture mapper is always in exactly the correct position.
SHAPE supports the import of,

  • Collada .dae
  • Wavefront OBJ .obj
  • Autodesk Filmbox .fbx (upto version 7.4, 2014)
  • Cinema4d .C4D (Melange enabled) (Ensure objects are editable and not parametric)
NOTE: When exporting from Cinema4d you must enable Melange. To do this in Cinema4d go to Edit, Preferences, Files, and tick, ‘Save Polygons for Melange’.

To import files,
File, Import, Model (Ctrl + Shift + D)

Scale: Choose what Scale to import your model in.
Flip UV Coordinates: OpenGL and DirectX UV coordinate systems are flipped from each other, if you see your texture flipped, simply tick this box and reimport.
Scene Elements: Use the tick boxes to choose what meshes or cameras to import.
Scene Type: Use the dropdown next to the cameras to choose to import your cameras as projectors, perspective texture mappers or planar texture mappers.
