Hair/Makeup & Wardrobe
The area of hair/makeup and wardrobe requires close contact of artists with staff and should be considered a high risk area. Safety measures to consider include:
- Limit the number of people in a space and maintain 2 metres (6 feet) of distance between each workstation
- Limit the number of performers that may be in a space receiving styling at a time
- Limit interaction between hair, makeup and wardrobe workers and performers (e.g. fewer wardrobe changes, installation of barriers, etc.)
- People working directly with performers must wear higher level PPE, such as N95 masks and face shields, and also perform more regular and thorough hand hygiene
- To limit the spread and maintain sanitization protocols, food and drink should not be permitted in these areas while work is being done
- Clean/disinfect workstations and equipment on a regular basis
- Sanitize workstations before and after each artist enters the hair/makeup or wardrobe area
- Additional disinfecting or quarantine period for wardrobe items
- Limit multiple individuals from using the same equipment or materials by minimizing the tools and supplies left out on a workstation
- Change gloves (if used) after each performer leaves the space or workstation
- Provide contactless sanitizer stations in or near hair, makeup and wardrobe areas
- Use of disposable single-use chair covers for each performer
- Use single-use hair or makeup applicators or brushes
- Use washable items on a single performer only; clean and disinfect the items each day
- Never place hair and makeup applicators or brushes back into a shared make-up container
- Wardrobe dressers should not provide support to entire cast
- Performers bag their own wardrobe
- Have separate wardrobe pieces for understudies and/or swings
- Record and display disinfection protocols for makeup application tools and supplies
- At the end of the production, clean out everything brought into the space and dispose of items ready for recycling or garbage
