The translation of Connect is done through our Localizr tool, a web-based admin tool for localizing websites and web-based software.

You can login here: https://cms.localizr.io

Some quick instructions for getting started:

After logging in:

  • choose the Connect project
  • the click the Translate button under Deutsch
  • this take you to a folder structure containing all the texts that need to be translated
  • click a folder, e.g. “add_screen” to open the folder and see the translation texts for that section (and often, several sub-folders)
  • the translation text table has 3 columns:
    • the translation key (basically the folder path to the text)
    • the box for entering the german text
    • the original text in English
  • to translate, enter the german text in the box, TAB or click to go to the next, it save automatically.
  • tips: hover over the English text and
    • click the <- arrow to copy the English text to the german box
    • click the globe icon to auto translate from english to german using the DeepL API
  • to auto translate all keys on a page, click the button at the bottom with the globe icon and “All Keys”

To Preview Connect in German, click the “Preview” button on the Connect Languages hub.

I am very interested in your feedback on the workflow and the Localizr tool, because

  • we want to make translating Connect as easy as possible for translators into other languages
  • we are planning to release Localizr as a commercial tool for other companies

I suspect that some of the challenges will be in finding UI texts in the large folder structure, or vice versa, to find where in the UI a specific texts shows up. The current folder structure was set up by the Connect developers and kind of follows our code structure, whereas I would preferred to follow the UI and screens of the software (as that is easier for translators).
