Depending on your current version of Akkadian Provisioning Manager, there are two methods for upgrading to version 5.

  1. Direct Upgrade – supported from version 4.50 using full zip update
  2. Migration upgrade – supported for versions prior to 4.50

Direct Upgrade Process:

  1. Download necessary upgrade files from the Akkadian Labs portal.
  2. If you are running high-availability, put replication in maintenance mode.
  3. Take a VMWare snapshot. This is not required, but highly recommended.
  4. Backup Akkadian Provisioning Manager.
  5. Upgrade the Akkadian Appliance Manager CLI to version 3.0.0-cda307a.
  6. Update Akkadian Provisioning Manager 4.50.18 or higher.
  7. Upgrade Akkadian Provisioning Manager to 5.0 using the full zip update.
  8. Verify the system is functioning as expected.
  9. Obtain and apply the new Akkadian Provisioning Manager 5.0 license.
  10. Remove the VMWare snapshot.
  11. Take another system backup.

Migration Upgrade Process:

  1. Download necessary files from the Akkadian Labs portal.
  2. Obtain an Akkadian Provisioning Manager 5.0 license.
  3. Deploy the new OVA on VMWare, but leave it powered off.
  4. If you plan on using the same IP address and host name, please document the current settings.
  5. Take a VMWare snapshot. This is not required, but highly recommended.
  6. Backup Akkadian Provisioning Manager.
  7. Upgrade the existing server to 4.14.38 or if you are running 4.50, please update to 4.50.18 or higher.
  8. Backup Akkadian Provisioning Manager. This is the backup file that will be used to migrate to 5.0.
  9. Shut down the current server. If you are running HA, please shut down any backup servers.
  10. Power on the new OVA, configure the network and host name and verify network connectivity.
  11. Navigate to the server in a browser.
  12. Apply the new license file to the server.
  13. Go to System -> Backup and Restore.
  14. Select the Restore tab.
  15. Upload the file from from Step 8.
  16. Check Restore Certificate to restore the SSL certificate and private key. The server host name must be exactly the same as it was prior.
  17. Click Restore to begin the restore process.
  18. When finished, the migration upgrade process is complete.
  19. If you restored certificates, the server should be rebooted. If you were running HA, you will need to deploy an additional OVA and repeat the HA configuration process.
