- There are three categories of programs that are available for teaching BTI programs. These are:
- Discrete Trial
- Task-Analysis
- Shaping
The teaching category for programs in the Library have been pre-selected based on the most typical method of teaching that particular skill. Once you have decided on a skill to use from the Library for your client, you will have the option of keeping the pre-selected teaching method or changing it (See Specific Client Programs System).
For the Discrete Trial category, additional options include mass trial, distributed trial, and random rotation.
For the Task-Analysis category, additional options include forward chaining, backward chaining, and total task.
For the Shaping category, additional options include Within Topography and Across Topography.
- For every program that you will be writing, you will need to think through which category of teaching you want to use. For example, Discrete Trial category is appropriate for programs that require a single response and a data point for each response. The Task Analysis category is appropriate for programs that can be broken down into step-by-steps. Finally, the Shaping category would be used for programs that require successive approximations to the final behavior.
