5.4.1. Resolutions Committee #1: On the Report of the Bishop

Whereas, Bishop Matthew Riegel’s Report to Synod Assembly presents a changing future for the WV-WMD Synod and its congregations.

Whereas, this assembly does not seek to place the burden of navigating these challenges solely on the bishop, synod council, or any individual. Therefore, be it

Resolved, That the 2026 WV-WMD Synod Assembly encourage each congregation to enter into an intentional year of prayer and discernment.

Resolved, That each congregation of the WV-WMD Synod is encouraged to appoint a lay leader and or their pastor to share the Bishop’s Report and encourage intentional prayer and discernment over the next year.

Resolved, That the 2026 WV-WMD Synod Assembly direct the 2027 WV-WMD Synod Assembly, in cooperation with the Resolutions Committee, to take up the work of addressing the future of the synod, shaped by this year in discernment.
