The Young Professionals Programme (YPP) gives rise to very specific requirements that must be observed when processing the selection and offer management of a successful candidate for initial appointment with the Organization.

  1. Successful YPP candidates are maintained through a roster system after the successful completion of the YPP examination in a particular job family, which is managed by HRSD – special assessments section. In coordination with Hiring Managers, the Office of Human Resources Management will conduct a matching exercise to fill available P-1 and P-2 positions.
  2. Successful candidates that have been selected for an available position will be provided an offer of appointment. This roster information must be included in the offer of appointment.
  3. External candidates will receive a fixed-term appointment for a period of two years, after which they will be granted a continuing appointment subject to satisfactory performance. This information must also be included in the offer of appointment.
  4. Once the offer of appointment is accepted and clearances are received, the onboarding steps remain the same for YPP candidates as for any other initial fixed-term appointment. Coordination and participation in YPP related activities and events will be handled by the Office of Human Resources Management.

For successful YPP candidates who have more than one nationality, for United Nations purposes their nationality will be the nationality of the State under which they applied for the young professionals programme examination and they will not be able to change that nationality later.
