When changing a staff member’s pension contribution status from Non-Contributing to Contributing during the execution of a Temporary Reappointment PA, or establishing the date upon initial appointment, you must pay particular attention to the Start date for the NPO Pension Funds record.

The pension participation date is established or reset as follows:

Pension Participation date

Day 1 of the initial appointment, reappointment or extension, if the initial appointment, reappointment or extension is for a period of 6 months or more.

Example 1: A staff member’s initial appointment was for less than six months (01.01.2020 through 31.03.2020). The staff member is not entitled to Pension.

or

The first day of the seventh month if six months of service on a series of appointments of less than 6 months without a break or more than 30 days between appointments have been completed prior to the appointment, reappointment or extension.

Example 2: A staff member has an initial three-month appointment (15.01.2020 – 14.03.2020) followed after a short break by a four-month temporary reappointment (01.04.2020 through 31.07.2020). The staff member starts to contribute to the pension fund effective the first day of the seventh month, which is 01.07.2020 The start date of the infotype defaults to the effective date of the reappointment, 01.04.2020. Leave this as is and select non-contributing because as of the effective date of the appointment the
pension participation is non-contributing.

Once you have completed the Onboarding PA:

  1. run a PA30 and copy IT0961 (Pension participation).
    1. On the copy screen, change the start date of the header to the correct pension participation date (01.07.2020) and select
    contributing as a pension status.
    3. When you validate and save you will see a prompt asking you to delimit the prior record (from 01.04.2020).
    4. Click Ok and then save the record.

This will delimit the prior non-contributing record and create the new contributing record effective 01.07.2020.
