Similar to the Young Professionals Programme (YPP), recruitment of staff for language posts gives rise to very specific requirements that must be observed when processing the selection and offer of appointment to a successful candidate for initial appointment with the Organization.

  1. Successful Language candidates are maintained through a roster system after the successful completion of a Language examination in a specialized language field, which is managed by SAS. When vacant positions are identified, hiring managers review the rosters and make a recommendation for selection to the HR partner. The selected candidate is then removed from the roster. The management of rosters is the responsibility of the Human Resources Services Division.
  2. External candidates will receive a fixed-term appointment for a period of two years, after which they will be granted a continuing appointment subject to satisfactory performance. This information must be included in the offer of appointment. Internal candidates are placed on SPA for the two-year probationary period and a lien is maintained on their previous post. Upon satisfactory completion of the trial period, they will be promoted to the P3 category and converted to a continuing contract, if they did not have it already. Please refer to the Movements job aid if you are processing an SPA for an internal candidate.
  3. Once the offer of appointment is accepted and clearances are received, all other onboarding steps remain the same for external Language candidates as for any initial fixed-term appointment.
