Dashcam is an add-on feature included in the Premium+ subscription and is here to help you by recording everything in front of the vehicle using your smartphone/tablet’s camera and automatically saving the video in the event of a car crash.

Tip: You can use the dashcam either in navigation mode (when creating a route) or without creating a route.

How to turn on the Dashcam?

  1. Start Dashcam from the quick menu – the icon with 4 dots in the lower right corner of the screen, then tap on Extra Functions, where will tap on the Smartcam icon.
  2. A screen with a camera preview will appear, where you will see 3 functions in the lower left corner (not clickable), a gear wheel for settings, and a start button.
  3. To view and change the Smartcam settings, tap the gear wheel icon in the lower right corner. Here you can select which functions within the Smartcam function you want to enable.
  4. Start recording by pressing the start button.
  5. You can stop recording by pressing the red button that appears in the bottom left corner after recording has started.
  6. To return to the map/navigation screen, tap the Map button at the bottom right. If recording is in progress, it will not be interrupted, it will continue.
  7. When recording is active, the buttons at the bottom of the screen are hidden under the 4-dot icon at the bottom right after a short while.

Where is the recorded video?

Dashcam records video files of a certain length. In the Dashcam settings, you can choose the length of recording a single video file: 2, 5, 10, or 15 minutes.
The last 3 recorded video files are automatically saved in the DCIM/SygicDashcam/ folder on your device’s internal storage. When the 4th video in a row starts recording, the oldest of the three videos saved until then is automatically deleted. This limits the storage memory consumption that the Dashcam function needs, otherwise it would fill up all the free space in the memory with recordings relatively quickly.

Example: if you have the length of one video set to the standard 5 minutes, then after exactly 15 minutes of recording, 3 video files will be saved from the times: from 0:00 to 5:00, 5:00 to 10:00, and 10:00 to 15:00.
After 17 minutes of recording via the Dashcam, the video from the first five minutes will no longer be available, at which point the video files from the times: from 5:00 to 10:00, 10:00 to 15:00, and the third video will contain the recording from 15:00 to 17:00 and will continue to record until it reaches the length of five minutes.

When you happen to have recorded an accident or other interesting event, and you want to save the video permanently so that it is not overwritten, use any file manager and copy or drag the recorded video from the DCIM/SygicDashcam/ folder to any other folder.
