In this article you will learn what a skid or pallet is and how SwiftCOUNT allows you to create and manage skids to reflect your business operations.

Why you will need this:

Skids are widely used in warehousing environments and serve the purpose of representing a group of products within a location.

What is a skid:

A skid(also called a pallet) is a flat transport structure, which supports goods in a stable fashion while being lifted by a forklift, a pallet jack, a front loader, a jacking device, or an erect crane. A pallet is the structural foundation of a unit load which allows handling and storage efficiencies. Goods or shipping containers are often placed on a pallet secured with strapping, stretch wrap or shrink wrap and shipped. Since its invention in the twentieth century, its use has dramatically supplanted older forms of crating like the wooden box and the wooden barrel, as it works well with modern packaging like corrugated boxes and intermodal containers commonly used for bulk shipping.

Skids in SwiftCOUNT:

SwiftCOUNT recognizes skids as such and allows them to be stored within locations which in turn are located in a Space. Think of it as a group of specific products stored in a location inside a space. More than, one skid can be stored in a location effectively making skids “sub locations”.
