In this article, you will learn how to create/add units of measure for yours products.

Why you will need this:

Units of measure allow products to be represented in different units (cases of 24, boxes of 6, packs of 12…). It will help you decrease errors in accuracy when counting and help you manage your inventory with simplicity. For example: a coffee shop who offers chocolate bars can receive them in boxes of 30 and sell them individually.

To create/add Units Of Measure (UOMs), you have two (2) different options:
Option #1: Do it from the “Settings” module. See below.

Step 1: Go to UOM’s section

Go to the “Settings” module on the left banner, last module.
Click “Units of measure”

Step 2: Add new unit of measure

Click “Add new unit of measure”

Step 3: Fill out the new unit of measure information

Fill out the form to add the new unit of measure
Choose a code : your internal identifier for the new unit of measure
Enter a description for the new unit of measure
Choose the default quantity
The default quantity for a new UOM is the number of Master UOM* that this new UOM will represent. For example: a secondary UOM called B30 (Box of 30 units) has a default quantity of 30. This means that each B30 represents 30 Master UOMs of the product (e.g. a box of chocolate bars contains 30 chocolate bars). When assigning the secondary UOM to a product, the default quantity can be modified (e.g. certain brands of chocolate bars come in cases of 40 units).

*The Master UOM represents the unit of a product. A Master UOM is automatically created and identified as “Each” (EA) when a company is created in SwiftCount.
