In this article, you will learn how to assign a primary warehouse to a product.

*Why you will need this: *

Products can be assigned to different warehouses but only from a specific one, the product is shipped or distributed to other spaces (stores, other warehouses, final customer, etc.).
When sales are generated by sales reps or other integrations connected to your SwiftCOUNT company, products can come all in the sale with no specific warehouse from where to ship them from. Having a primary warehouse specified for each product, allows the sale to be created in SwiftCOUNT with each item assigned to the proper shipping warehouse.
You might have a setup in which you have specific warehouses to store different types of product (e.g. equipment, refrigerated products, canned products). When a sales rep places a sales, products are added to the sale in a list form. Primary warehouses allows the sale to come to SwiftCOUNT and the products to be listed in the proper warehouse for shipping.
What you will need:

Assign products to the proper warehouses. Click here to learn how to assign a product to a location in a warehouse.
Although it is not required for the product to be assigned to a warehouse to make it its primary warehouse, when a sale has the product automatically assigned to that warehouse, there will be no locations to ship the product from.

Step 1: Load the product details screen.

From the products screen select the product that you want to load by clicking on “View”.
The product details screen loads for the specific product.
Click on the “Warehouse primary” drop down. All the warehouses/spaces in your company are listed.

The drop down lists the warehouses by code alphabetically sorted. If the list is too big, you can type the code to filter the list for easier selection.

Select the warehouse to be set as the master one for the product. The warehouse will now be listed in the drop box.

Click on “Save” to finish the warehouse assignment.

The product has been assigned a primary warehouse.

From now on, every time a sale is created and no warehouse is specified for the sale, if the product is added to the sale, it will be assigned the primary warehouse for shipment.
