The latest version of VO introduces Coordinate Reference System (CRS) capabilities, including support for the Geographic Coordinate System. These improvements streamline the use of GIS data, enhance compatibility with global datasets, and simplify workflows for both local and large-scale projects.
Combined with the Layer Projection Tool, users can manage and align coordinate systems for all GIS layers, ensuring spatial accuracy and smooth operation within their projects.

When to Use the Geographic Coordinate System

The Geographic System is best suited for projects that:

  • Use global datasets, such as large-scale maps or satellite imagery.
  • Do not require high precision for distance or area measurements.

For local or regional-scale analysis, it is recommended to use a Projected System to maintain accurate measurements of distance and area.

How to Change the Coordinate System in VO

Changing the coordinate system in VO is straightforward:

  1. Navigate to the Home tab in the toolbar.
  2. Click the Options button to open the settings menu.
  3. In the Options window, locate the Coordinate System section.
  4. Check the box for Geographic System to enable it.
  5. Use the dropdown menu to browse available geographic systems.
  6. If you know the name of the system (e.g., WGS84), type it in the search bar to quickly locate it.
  7. Select the desired system and click OK to save your changes.

After applying the changes, you need to close VO and reopen it.
