The Layer Projection Tool ensures compatibility between the coordinate system of your GIS layers (e.g., shapefiles, DEMs) and your VO project. It allows you to reproject any imported layer into a new CRS, ideally aligning it with the project’s coordinate system.
When to Use the Layer Projection Tool
Use this tool in the following situations:
- When an imported GIS layer does not match the project’s coordinate system.
- Whenever new GIS layers with differing coordinate systems are added.
How to Use the Layer Projection Tool
1. Access the tool:
- Go to the Map tab.
- Right-click on the desired GIS layer.
- From the context menu, select ProjectTo.
2. Review the Layer Projection window:
- The top of the window displays the current coordinate system of the VO project.
- The middle section lists imported layers and their coordinate systems, helping you identify mismatches.
3. Select the layer to reproject:
- Use the Import Layer dropdown menu to choose the layer you want to reproject.
4. Set the target coordinate system:
- In the Target Coordinate Reference System dropdown, select the new CRS.
- Ideally, choose the same CRS as the project to avoid compatibility issues.
5. Apply the reprojection:
- Click Apply.
- The layer will be converted and added to the Imported section of your project.
6. Check the reprojected layer:
- The new layer will appear with a modified name.
