Description Sets the name/description of the tax This is also used on the invoices for instance
Valid from Sets the date from which the Tax is valid The validity starts at 0:00 in the selected time zone
Valid to Sets the date until which the Tax is valid The validity ends at 23:59 in the selected time zone
Fixed/Percentage Selecting sets the calculation method of the tax Calculation can only be in percentage or fixed amount
Amount Sets the amount to be calculated If fixed is selected, the native currency is added as selected for the hotel
Based on Sets the basis the tax amount is calculated over See the table below for the details
Tax Due Determines when the moment the tax should be calculated and charged Prepaid will result in tax calculation on the moment of the reservation being paid (without the guest checking out). Checkout will result in the tax being calculated during the checkout process.
ReTaxable Determines if another Tax can be calculated over the Tax Almost always on ‘No’, as it is almost never allowed to calculate a tax over another tax
Included in price Determines if the Tax is included in the price See the table below for the details
Probe Date Determines which tax is used, based on the time frame Staydate will result in the Tax used as valid during the stay, Invoicedate will result in the Tax used as valid on the invoicedate.
Based on net amount Determines if a tax is calculated over the net amount or not Yes will result in the tax being calculated over the net amount, No will result in calculation over the gross amount. As in most cases Taxes are not calculated over prices including VAT, Yes is correct in most cases
Sales Item Determines which Sales Item is to be used for the Tax The Sales Item needs to be added in order to select it here. Without a Sales Item attached, the tax can not be added to the invoice
After Discount Determines if the Tax is calculated over the price before or after discounts are applied Yes will result in calculation over the price after discounts are applied, No will calculate the tax over the total amount without any discounts
Children Tax Determines if the Tax is applicable on guests marked as children Yes will charge the Tax to children, No will ot charge the Tax to children. The threshold for children-adults is specific to hotels, so no general guideline can be given. If Yes is selected, the guests need to be marked as children to execute this rule.

Night The Tax is calculated once per Night, regardless of the number of rooms or number of guests a one time tax is charged per NIGHT
Included in price Included the tax is included in the rate A Room costs € 100 per night / tax included. So the guest is charged € 100 for the Room and the Tax
Excluded The Tax is excluded, so will be added to the rate A Room costs € 150 per night / tax excluded. The Tax is € 5 per Room Night, so the guest is charged for 1 night € 150 + € 5 = € 155
Per customer The Tax is set to Excluded, but on a Company level it can be included Managing companies is done here
